Amsterdam: The COVID-19 pandemic has left a huge setback in the entire world and the world of sport. Dutch cricketer Paul van Meekerene has disclosed that in a offer to get through the winter, he is working for Uber Eats as a delivery boy.

Due to the pandemic situation the ICC T20 World Cup has to get cancelled. Meekerene would have been in Australia for the ICC T20 World Cup, which was earlier scheduled to be held from October 18 to November 15. But the global governing body of cricket had to reschedule the T20 World Cup in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the previous schedule shared by the ICC in the pre-pandemic era, the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup was set to get concluded on November 15 in Melbourne this year. Apart from the top 10 nations, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman were the six additional teams that had qualified for T20 World Cup 2020.

Now, with the T20 event getting postponed, bowler Meekeren revealed that he is working as a delivery boy for Uber eats for his daily needs. “Should’ve been playing cricket today, now I’m delivering Uber eats to get through the winter months!! Funny how things change hahaha keep smiling people,” wrote Meekeren on Twitter by mentioning a tweet of ESPNcricinfo.

Meekeren, who was born in the Netherlands, made his international debut against Kenya in a T20 game in 2013. Paul has played five ODIs and 41 T20Is for the Dutch team and picked four and 47 wickets respectively. He also represented Somerset in County cricket. He is one of the important players for his national team’s success so far.

The Dutch team, led by Pieter Seelaar, will represent the country in India in the T20 World Cup 2021 and will be hoping to defeat some big teams. India will host next year’s T20 World Cup and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is confident of hosting it.
