Dubai : Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab in Super Over to get off to a fine start in IPL 2020 in Dubai on Sunday (September 20).

After both teams tied the game at 157/8, it was Delhi who had the last laugh as their speedster Kagiso Rabada picked the wickets of KL Rahul and Nicolas Puran in successive deliveries to restrict Kings XI to just two runs in the Super Over. After a wide from Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant clubbed one to deep to score the winning runs for his side.

Earlier in the game it was the opening pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal who were out in the middle to start the chase. Anrich Nortje started Delhi’s attack with the ball.

It was a brisk start for the Kings XI as they reached 28/0 after 4 overs. However, soon after it was Mohit Sharma who stuck for Delhi as he sent back rival captain KL Rahul (21 runs- 19 balls) to the pavillion.

Ravichandran Ashwin too joined the party and he struck with his first delivery of the IPL season. Karun Nair was the man who had to take the walk back to the pavilion as Delhi bowlers pushed KXIP on backfoot.

Ashwin struck again in same over and this time it was Nicholas Pooran. A tossed up delivery and Pooran failed to read it, as the ball hit his pad and then clipped the off stump. He departed for a duck.

Next it was Rabada who got the dangerous Glenn Maxwell as he was holed out at long-off.

KXIP were struggling in the middle as they lost their fifth wicket. This time it was Axar Patel who picked up the wicket as Sarfaraz played it straight to Prithvi Shaw at long-on.

Thereafter it was all about the Mayank Agarwal show. The right hander clubbed it all around the ground, with wickets tumbling on the other side. He almost took his team over the line but then miscued a full toss and was caught out at deep point. Marcus Stoinis who got rid of Agarwal picked up Chris Jordan off the final ball of the game to push the encounter into a Super Over.

In the first session, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for Delhi. While Sheldon Cottrell got hold of the new ball for Kings XI.

Delhi struggled from the very beginning with the team reeling at 13-3 at one stage. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer then knitted a useful partnership to steady the sinking ship a bit. Then it was Stoinis who took over for a lightning fast 53 of just 21 balls.

Brief Scores : Delhi Capitals (157/8)

Marcus Stoinis : 53 off 21

Kings XI Punjab (157/8)
