Southampton: Former England cricketer-turned-commentator Kevin Pietersen has compared the trouble in Cricket South Africa (CSA) to a “horror show” which is ending the sport in that country.

Earlier on September 11, South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) took over powers from CSA as it investigates “many instances of maladministration and malpractice that have occurred since at least December 2019.”

The right-handed batsman Pietersen took to Twitter and wrote, “Goodness me! What’s happening to cricket in SA is catastrophic.” CSA has, among others, former skipper Graeme Smith at the helm of affairs, and Pietersen felt bad for them.

“I feel so sorry for the many amazing people that work in that organisation and to all the players that are suffering at the hands of this disaster. Sport unites SA! This horror show is finishing cricket.”

Cricbuzz reported that SASCOC took the decision at a board meeting on Tuesday (September 8) alleging “many instances of maladministration and malpractice at CSA which has brought cricket into disrepute.”

CSA former CEO Thabang Monroe was dismissed last month due to the detection of a forensic report that disclosed “acts of serious misconduct”. Acting CEO Jacques Faul was replaced by Kugandrie Govender and president Chris Nenzani stepped down last month.
