Kolkata: Diksha Dagar (19), Aditi Ashok (22) and Tvesa Malik (24) will become the first Indian women trio at the same Major when they tee off at the Women’s Open this week at Royal Troon, South Ayshire, Scotland.

The event will be a closed event and the only major contested in Europe after The Open Championship was abolished due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Royal Troon is one of the famous golf clubs in which former champions like Laura Davies, Catriona Matthew, Annika Sorenstam and most recently Japanese golfer Hinako Shibuno have stained their masterly footsteps.

The 24-year old Malik topped the Women’s Golf Association Of India Tour Order of Merit in 2018 and is playing her first full session in Europe. “I have some experience of playing with the European players, especially at home at the Hero Indian Open, where I had my first top 10 last year, but a major in Scotland is a different thing altogether,” Malik said.

Meanwhile, Aditi and Diksha have previously featured at the Women’s Open in Rio 2016. The 2016 Indian Open winner Aditi missed the cut at the Ladies Scottish Open last week, is eager to focus on the positives from the previous experience ahead of the major event offering prize money of USD 4.5 million.

“I’m excited to be competing in such a storied venue with so much history,” Aditi said. “It is a great honour and opportunity to be playing at the highest level, that’s what we dream and work for a lot of people have contributed along the journey on playing at Royal Troon,” Diksha stated.
