Oval: Two consecutive half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and captain Mithali Raj went in vain as South Africa clinch thriller by three wickets in a last-over against India at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday.

A 125-run second-wicket partnership between Laura Wolvaardt (80) and Lara Goodall (49) set the innings up as Mignon du Preez (52*) saw the team over the line. South Africa survived some nervy moments to chase down the target in the last ball. Mignon was the star of SA, she was also adjudged the player of the match for her unbeaten 52 off 63. South Africa’s victory over India means they will play England  in Christchurch on Thursday in the semi-final.

Earlier, Batting first Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj scored individual fifties to help India post 274/7 in 50 overs.
India were off to a blazing start thanks to Shafali who unleashed a flurry of boundaries before being run out. Sloppy fielding hurt them bad as India crash out of World Cup West Indies book semi-final berth. Which means West Indies make it through as the fourth team and now they will lock horns against Australia.

Two changes they have made to their eleven today with veteran Jhulan Goswami and Poonam Yadav benched for this crucial contest while Meghna Singh and Deepti Sharma have been given a go. South Africa also made two changes dropping Tazmin Brits and Tumi Sekhukhune for Lara Goodall and Masabata Klaas. Wolvaardt and Du Preez were the stars for SA.
