Lord’s : South Africa are on verge of winning their maiden ICC WTC and also first ICC Trophy since 1998 Champions Trophy. They are just 69 runs away from defeating Australia at Lord’s, London, kudos to brilliant century by Aiden Markram on Day 3 of ICC WTC 2025 Final.
Day 2 ended with Australia on 144-8, with lead of 218 runs, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc at crease.
Kagiso Rabada dismissed Lyon early. However, Starc (58*) and Josh Hazlewood (17) notched up 59 runs partnership for 10th wicket. The last wicket of Aussies’ innings fell on 207 runs, setting 282 runs target for Proteas.
Chasing 282 , South Africa lost Ryan Rickelton (6) early. Wiaan Mulder (27) also departed after 61 runs partnership with skipper Temba Bavuma (65*), before falling on 70.
Aiden Markram (102*) joined Bavuma to built a giant 143* runs partnership. Markram played an innings of unbeaten 102* (159) , including 11 boundaries, that almost confirmed victory for South Africa.
Proteas are now just 69 runs away from history.
