ICC WC 2023 : SA v NET : Netherlands upset South Africa for the 2nd time in ICC events

Dharamsala : Netherlands upset South African at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, defeating them by 38 runs.

Netherlands defeated South Africa in ICC T20 WC 2022 , knocking them out. Today’s the 2nd time they upset Proteas.

Defending 246 runs in 43 overs (DLS), Netherlands spinners began troubling Proteas. After a solid 36 runs, their strong top order crumbled. Roelof Van der Merwe being the protagonist of it collapse, picking 2 out of 4 top order wickets.

Though, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller tried to settle things but Klaasen’s dismissal added salts to wounds.

David Miller(43) tried his best , South Africa continued to lose wickets from other end. Miller’s innings too came to an end sooner , with Proteas 101 runs remaining to win.

Netherlands did well to clean up the tail despite Keshav Maharaj’s valiant 40 runs. The Protean innings packed with strong middle order got all out on 207 runs.

Logan Van Beek picked 3 wickets, where as, Paul Van Meekeren, Merwe, Bas de Leede picked 2 each.

In the 1st innings, South African bowlers dominated Netherlands. At one stage, they were 80-5 , and from here things began to turn.

Skipper Scott Edwards scored a vital 78*(69) . He built small partnerships with Teja (20), Merwe (29), taking the score to 245. They defended it ultimately. Edwards was adjourned the Man of the Match for this knock. His leadership too proved excellent.

South Africa will next face England at Mumbai. Netherlands will travel to Lucknow to take on Sri Lanka. Both these matches will be on 21st October.
