ICC WC 2023 : IND v PAK : India continue unbeaten run against Pakistan, record their 8th World Cup win against the arch rivals

Ahmedabad : India secured their 8th successive World Cup win against Pakistan. They defeated the arch rivals by 7 wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium. This is India’s 3rd win of this World Cup.

Chasing 192, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill switched to attacking mode. They targeted Pakistani pacers bowling with the new ball. However, Gill after a good start got dismissed to Shaheen Afridi , caught at point. Virat Kohli too didn’t score big, as he departed within the powerplays, being dismissed by Hasan Ali.

Despite the loss of 2 wickets within 10 overs, Rohit Sharma continued his attacking mode. He scored a match winning 86(63) before Shaheen dismissed him off a slower one. However, Shreyas Iyer, who built partnership with Rohit, scored his 50 , took India to victory.

In the 1st innings, Pakistan openers started well, making a 41 runs stand. Abdullah Shafique & Imam-ul-Haq silenced the crowd with boundaries. However, Mohammad Siraj and Hardik Pandya dismissed them respectively.

The pillar of Pakistan middle order – Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan took the charge. They build a stand of 82 runs, with Babar scoring his 50.

The turning point of the Match came when Siraj dismissed Babar. The ball kept low and knocked off his stumps. This incident scripted Pakistan’s collapse as they got bundled out from 155-2 to 191-10.

Mohammad Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah , Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja shared 2 wickets each. The bowling unit suppressed the runs and got quick wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was the Man of the Match for his spell 2-19.

India move to top of the points table with this win. They will next face Bangladesh on 19th October in Pune. Pakistan will move to Bengaluru to face Australia.
