ICC T20 World Cup: South Africa spinner pleads to Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi for other bowlers

Dubai: Afghanistan claimed a stunning win by 56 runs over the defending champions West Indies in their final warm-up game ahead of the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 on Wednesday at ICC Academy Ground.

The Mohammad Nabi-led team will enter the tournament with a lot of confidence after absolutely outplaying the West Indies on all fronts. Captain Nabi opened the bowling for Afghanistan, bowling four overs in a row after setting a target of 190 runs.

In his four overs, the all-rounder had stats of 3/2, including two maidens. In the match, he bowled 22 dot balls out of 24 deliveries, allowing only two singles to the two-time champs.

Tabraiz Shamsi, a left-arm wrist spinner for South Africa, went to Twitter to praise Afghanistan skipper’s incredible bowling numbers.

South Africa’s left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi took to Twitter to praise the unbelievable bowling figures of the Afghanistan skipper. “Right then…. how many decades (if ever) is it gonna take a bowler to bowl 4 overs for 1 run in a T20 to beat @MohammadNabi007’s 4 overs for 2 runs.. not to forget the 3 wickets to go with it. Please give other bowlers a chance Mr. President,” wrote Shamsi on Twitter.

Following Afghanistan’s batters put on a fantastic performance with the bat, Nabi’s stats were amazing. Batting first, Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad both scored fifty runs to help their team to a total of 189/5.

The 36-year-old has appeared in 80 Twenty20 Internationals for Afghanistan, taking 72 wickets and scoring 1366 runs.

Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign will begin on October 25 in Sharjah, where they will face the Group B table toppers.
