Goa: It’s a New Year but Mumbai City FC remained the same as they defetead Kerala Blasters 2-0 in the Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium and take them to the top of the table. Adam Le Fondre and Hugo Boumous sealed the deal for the Islanders on Saturday.

The match was important for both the side and both of them wanted to start the new year with a win. Sergio Lobera’s side has been playing some fearless football and a similar thing was witnessed on Saturday’s match. For Kibu Vicuna it was the only a disappointment as the team missed plenty of opportunities.

The match started with a bang as Mumbai earned a penalty in the third minute of the match after Boumous was fouled inside the box. Le Fondre stepped in and scored the first from the spot.

In the 11th minute Mumbai’s French superstar, Boumous scored the second and the Islanders were clear 2-0, with the hope of scoring many more.

Kerala, on the other hand, started to push from the second half and created numerous chances but every time Mumbai keeper Amrinder Singh came in between them and stopped every other chance the Yellow Army had created.

Boumous missed a penalty in the second half but his return into the side has brought in the fresh air as he scored his first goal of the season for his new club. Le Fondre has been consistent with scoring goals as he scored his sixth goal of the season. Certainly, Lobera will be a happy man in charge of this strong side.
