Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021 likely to be postponed; 3 countries pulls out on covid concerns

New Delhi: Hockey India selected 24 players to the Junior Men’s Core Probable Group on Saturday for the much-anticipated FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup, which will be held in Bhubaneswar from November 24.

The players will head to Chief Coach Graham Reid and Coach BJ Kariappa on November 7 for a preparatory camp ahead of the coveted quadrennial tournament, in which 16 teams from across the world will compete for top honours.

The Core Probable Group includes Pawan, Prashant Kumar Chauhan, Sahil Kumar Nayak, Sanjay,  Yashdeep Siwach, Shardanand Tiwari, Abhishek Lakra, Manjeet, Dinachandra Singh Moirangthem, Sunil Jojo, Cyril Lugun, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, Vishnu Kant Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Ankit Pal, Mareeswaran Sakthivel, Uttam Singh, Maninder Singh, Araijeet Singh Hundal, Sudeep Chirmako, Rahul Kumar Rajbhar, Boby Singh Dhami, Prabhjot Singh.

India, the hosts and defending champions, is in pool B with Canada, France, and Poland. Belgium, Malaysia, South Africa, and Chile are in Pool A, the Netherlands, Spain, Korea, and the United States are in Pool C, while Germany, Argentina, Pakistan, and Egypt are in Pool D.

Over the past three months, the Junior Men’s Camp has been hosted in a bio bubble at SAI, Bengaluru. The Core Probable Group will be striving to get attuned to the pitch at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium before the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup kicks off.
