Glasgow: Patrik Schick scored a brace as Czech Republic registered a 2-0 win over Scotland in the Euro 2020 Group D match at Hampden Park. Elsewhere, Slovakia handed an upset defeat to Poland. It was also after 23 long years Scotland made it to the finals of a major tournament.

Schick put the Czech Republic in front with a brilliant header three minutes from the halftime whistle. The Bayer Leverkusen striker doubled the lead with an outrageous long-range curler to beat David Marshall and seal the game in the 52nd minute.

Meanwhile, a 10-man Poland lost to Slovakia 1-2. Wojciech Szczesny scored an own goal to give Slovakia the lead in the 18th minute. He was also the first European goalkeeper to do so. Poland kept on pushing hard but the Slovakian defence was resilient enough to avert any danger.

Karol Linetty scored an equalizer for Poland within 30 seconds into the second half. To make matters worse, Grzegorz Krychowiak was sent off on 62 minutes after seeing two consecutive yellow cards. Krychowiak will miss the encounter against Spain.

Milan Skriniar scored the winner for Slovakia on 69 minutes to sit at the top of Group E. However, a goalless draw between Spain and Sweden contributed much to the standings. Luis Enrique’s men dominated possession throughout the match.

Alvaro Morata missed a golden opportunity in the 38th minute when he was alone in the box but missed the target. For Sweden Marcus Berg also missed out on a sensational chance created from a cross of  Alexander Isak. In the second half, Dani Olmo came close but it was cleared by Marcus Danielsson.
