After going six games without a goal, his longest dry spell since 2009. Ronaldo changed the rhythm of the match when he Scott McTominay fed Ronaldo, who swerved a shot past the opposition goalkeeper on 51 minutes.

Brighton were thereafter rendered to 10 men when Lewis Dunk’s yellow card was upgraded to a red after a foul on  Anthony Elanga. The numerical disadvatange only narrowed the chance of their comeback. As predicted, Bruno Fernandes scored a solo goal in the stoppage time to secure the game.

With this victory United moved to number four of the table, with 43 points in 25 games, leaving behind West Ham United. “It is great always when you have the three points especially after we draw the last few games. We are all very happy,” David De Gea said post the match.
