EPL: Liverpool climb to second; Chelsea draw against Everton

Liverpool: Liverpool came back from behind to win the game against New Castle 3-1 at Anfield in the Premier League. Jordan Pickford masterclass helped Everton restrict Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Jonjo Shelvey’s superb effort on 7 minutes put New Castle ahead, giving hope to the visitors. However, Diogo Jota scored the equalizer amidst a moment of confusion on 21 minutes.

Isaac Hayden was down clutching his head after he was caught while defending a Liverpool corner just moments before. Newcastle protested but the goal stood for the Reds. Although four minutes later Mohamed Salah put Liverpool forward.

Salah, who is absolutely unstoppable this season, scored his 15th goal in the league. On 25 minutes, his strike put the home team ahead. This was his 24th goal involvement (15 goals and 9 assists), with this he matched Jamie Vardy’s record for most Premier League goal involvements in consecutive games (15), which was set by the Leicester striker in the year 2015.

But it was a stunning strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold on 87 minutes which secured all the three points for Liverpool. With this win, Liverpool closed the point gap with leaders Manchester City, to just one point.

As for Chelsea, who dominated the entire game but they simply could not find the back of the net. Pickford was put to test quite a several times but he kept his team in the game with crucial saves. Finally, on 70 minutes Mason Mount found his way across Pickford.

Mount gave his team a lead when Chelsea were on the counter-attack and Mount took a pass from Reece James and beat Pickford. However, shortly afterward, Jarrad Branthwaite scored the equalizer for Rafa Benitez’s men.

Chelsea wasted the chance to close down the gap between them and Manchester City. The Blues are currently four points behind the table leaders with 37 points from 17 matches. Liverpool after their victory climbed to the second position with 40 points from 17 matches.
