Edinson Cavani’s late brace seals the deal for Manchester United

Southampton: Manchester United made a stunning comeback from 0-2 down to beat Southampton 3-2 in a thriller in the Premier League at the St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday (November 29), thanks to a late Edinson Cavani brace. Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse netted for the home side while Cavani and Bruno Fernandes featured on the scoresheet for the visitors.

United lined up in a 4-3-1-2formation with Harry Maguire being paired with Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence. Donny van de Beek featured in a starting line up along with Nemanja Matic and Fred forming a midfield trident while Marcus Rashford and youngster Mason Greenwood taking care of the attacking duties upfront with Bruno Fernandes playing as a no.10 behind them.

United started well creating a few chances but Southampton hit back against the run of play when Jen Bednarek headed it from a corner before the lead was extended when James Ward-Prowse curled it brilliantly from dead ball situation beating David De Gea.

In the second half though, United saw a ray of hope in the form of Bruno Fernandes who scored from inside the box again showing his dynamism as well as creativity to prove to everyone again that he is the talisman for United in every bit of sense.

Cavani who came on as a substitute made it 2-2 from when headed it to give the last touch of a long-range drive from Fernandes. With time running out, Cavani again appeared at the right place just at the right time heading from a whipping delivery from Marcus Rashford to complete a stunning comeback.
