Bengal T20 Challenge: Town Club beat Mohun Bagan; stay on top of the table

Kolkata: All-round Town Club remained on top of the table by beating Mohun Bagan by three wickets thanks to Gitimoy Basu’s blistering 25-ball 44 on Sunday (November 29) at Eden Gardens.

Mohun Bagan won the toss and elected to bat first. Skipper Anustup Majumder played other commendable innings of 48 runs off 35 balls to help Bagan post a fighting 136/7 in 20 overs.

For Bagan Prince Yadav also played a late cameo of 12-ball 19 while Ayan and Azaz Ansari bagged 2 wickets apiece. While chasing Kazi Junaid Saifi gave Town Club a good start with a patient 34-ball 31 while Gitimoy played another match-winning knock to help Town Club finish with 137/7 and win 4 out of their 5 matches of the tournament.

Gitimoy said, “We were playing against two of Bengal’s best T20 bowlers Akash Deep and Sayan, we planned accordingly. Thankfully my plans against them worked well, would’ve been happier to finish it for my team. We have won 4 out of 5 matches, feels good to win this game.”

Gitimoy smashed three sixes and four boundaries in his innings while Sayan Ghosh was the highest wicket-taker for Bagan with 3 for 34.
