East Bengal announce their coaching staff for upcoming ISL season

Kolkata : Shree Cement East Bengal Foundation officially announced their Head Coach and the coaching staff for the upcoming Hero Indian Super League Season 2020-21 on Friday (9 October).

Shree Cement East Bengal Foundation appointed Robbie Fowler, the former Liverpool legend and England striker as their head coach for the first team which is set to compete in Indian Super League 2020-21 season.

Mr. H. M. Bangur, Managing Director of Shree Cement, said, “We are happy to appoint the legendary Robbie Fowler as the Head Coach for the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season. It is a two-year contract as of now but we hope to have a long, fruitful, and trophy laden collaboration. Robbie comes in with a wealth of experience having played with and against the best. Besides Robbie, we have appointed seven foreign coaches who have top-level coaching experience. We hope our coaching staff will not only help the club achieve success but also the league as a whole.”

Fowler, previously managed Brisbane Roar FC . It was his first time full time appointment as a head coach. In the 2011-12 season Fowler, who holds UEFA Pro License, was player-coach at Thailand club Muangthong United and helped the team to a third-place finish. He had also spent time as a mentor with Liverpool’s academy and completed his UEFA Pro License in 2017.

Fowler was a youth product of Liverpool, he debuted for the senior team in 1993 and played till 2001. He moved to Leeds United and then he also played for Manchester City. Subsequently he returned to Anfield in 2006. He played for two more season and finished as Liverpool’s third highest goal-scorer with 183 goals. He also seven goals in 26 matches for England.
