Durand Cup 2022: Mohammedan Sporting thrash defending champions FC Goa 3-1

Kolkata : It is the perfect start for the Mohammedan Sporting in the first game of the 131st edition of the Durand Cup.

The match is slowly starting to open up and chances are being created more often by both the teams. A sudden moment in the game at 34th minute, a shot from Md Nemil of FC Goa sails into the net of Md Sporting and give FC Goa a lead at Vivekannda Yuvabharati Krirangan. The score end up on 1-0 in favour of FC Goa at the half way mark of the game.

But at the start of the second half, Md Sporting creating chances into the FC Goa’s box. FC Goa’s defence is completely derail by a attack from the Md Sporting forwards. Making no mistake No.7 Pritam Singh of Md Sporting scores the equaliser for his team at the 49th minutes of the game.

FC Goa and Md Sporting both start to dominate the game untill Faslurahaman of Md Sporting convert a header into a goal giving his team a 2-1 lead at the 84th minutes. Last season’s I-League top scorer Marcus Joseph also joins the party at the dying minute of the game and finishing the game by 3-1.

FC Goa make some good runs down the left flank by Phrangki Buam in the last five minutes but fail to make them count.

FC Goa will face Indian Air Force and Md Sporting will be facing ISL winner Jamshedpur FC in their next respective matches.
