Durand Cup 2021: Bengaluru FC, Delhi FC sail into quarterfinals

Kolkata: Harmanpreet Singh found the net twice. Bengaluru FC came from behind to bag all the three points against Indian Navy with 5-3 scoreline to secure the top position in the group as they advance in to the quarterfinals of the 130th edition of Durand Cup at Vivekananda Yuvabharati Krirangan. Else where at Kalyani Stadium, a solitary goal from Willis Deon Plaza saw Delhi FC reach the quarterfinals as the runners up from the same group.

Indian Navy had a strong domination over the game from the kick off and in about half an hour from the start, the regimental side had found the net twice courtesy Jijo F and Sreyas V.G at 19′ and 30′ . With the onset of the second half, the Blues were a reformed side and Leon Augustine opened the scoring in 8 minutes followed by brace by Harmanpreet. Ajay Chhetri scored from a spot kick in about 30 minutes from the second half. Two minutes in the extra time Huidrom Thoi Singh scored the fifth for the blues before Vijay pulled a third for the regimental side. Harmanpreet was honoured as the Man of the match.

Elsewhere at Kalyani, a lone goal from Willis Deon Plaza helped Delhi FC overcome Kerala Blasters in a must win encounter. With goal at the 53rd minute , Plaza became the top scorer of the round robin stages. Former U-17 Indian star defender Anwar Ali was adjudged to be the Man of the Match.
