Odense: India’s Kidambi Srikanth outclassed England’s Toby Penty in his opening round match at the Denmark Open Tuesday (October 13). The event marked the resumption of international badminton after seven months. The former world no.1, who had claimed four superseries titles in 2017, beat Toby 21-12, 21-18 in 37 minutes, will face Canada’s Jason Anthony Ho-Shue in the second round.

“I started off well, but he was good in the second game. I’m playing after a long time. It’s like an adventure. This situation is something new. I’ve never been away for this long, and I’m happy with the way it went,” Srikanth said. “The last time I played was at the All England where I lost in the first round, so I’ve not had much of match practice. But I think I’m slowly getting back.”

Lakshya Sen also advanced to the second round beating Christo Popov 21-9, 21-15 on Tuesday (October 13). He will face Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark in his next round.

Denmark Open Super 750 is the only event happening this year since the Badminton World Federation was forced to cancel multiple events due to COVID 19 pandemic, while the Asia leg and the World Tour Final has been postponed to next year.
