Chennaiyin FC strengthen backline with young defender Davinder Singh

Chennai: Former Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC (CFC) have roped in defender Davinder Singh ahead of the upcoming season. As per reports, 25-year-old penned a one-year deal with Marina Machans, the club announced on Friday.

“With Chennaiyin FC’s rich history in the Indian Super League, it is a tremendous honour for me to become a part of this club. The passion of the fans and the club’s family-led ethos made it a very easy decision for me to sign,” said Davinder, hoping to get back to the field after suffering a knee injury ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

“I am very excited to be working with head coach Boško and my new teammates, some who I have known for years. I have always given my 100 per cent and this season, I am even more determined to bring success back to Chennaiyin FC and my ambition is to make my way back to representing the Indian national team again. I believe this will happen,” the youngster further added.

A right-back by trait, Davinder had an inspiring journey coming through ranks from university football to the Indian national squad drawing attention towards himself after some promising displays for the U-23 national team in the 2018 AFC Championship qualifiers.

Davinder already had his experience playing in the ISL when he made his debut for Mumbai City FC in the 2017-18 season appearing nine times for the Islanders and will be crucial addition for the Marina Machans who will be looking to challenge for the title in the upcoming season.
