Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo stars in Manchester United comeback, Gerard Pique saves Barcelona

Barcelona :FC Barcelona won their first match of UEFA Champions League 2021-22 season with a 1-0 victory against Dynamo Kiev at Camp Nou. In Old Trafford, Manchester United had an incredible comeback, winning 3-2 against Atalanta after trailing by two goals.

Gerard Pique volleyed a cross from Jordi Alba, this also made , the defender with most goals in UCL overtaking his former Spain teammate Sergio Ramos. The goal from Pique was also the first goal in the UCL this season from FC Barcelona. Following back to back 3-0 loss against Bayern Munich and Benfica, Barcelona got their must win against Kiev.

Cristiano Ronaldo yet again came big for the Red Devils as he scored a 81st minute winner for Manchester United. United were trailing by two goals, as visitors seemed to have them wrapped around their fingers. Mario Palasic and Merih Demiral scored one goal each for Atalanta, as the match looked out of reach for the home team.

Although, Marcus Rashford missed a couple of very good chances but he finally scored from a very clever ball from Bruno Fernandes. Harry Maguire, who had an underwhelming time in the backline did score the equaliser on 75 minutes. And then it was their man of moment Cristiano Ronaldo who scored a header from Luke Shaw’s header, to win the game.

Elsewhere, Chelsea had a walk in the park against Malmo FF with a brace from Jorginho. Andreas Christensen opened the net for the Blues, this was his first goal for Chelsea in his 137 appearances. Jorginho doubled the lead from the spot, when the foul on Romelu Lukaku was awarded as a penalty. Kai Havertz extended their lead and later Jorginho completed his brace from the spot yet again.

As for Bayern Munich, Leroy Sane scored a brace which included an amazing free kick as the German side defeated Benfica 4-0. An own goal from Everton Soares and one from Robert Lewandowski sealed the game for Munich.
