New Delhi: Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma is making a comeback after three long years with her new film Chakda Xpress which is a biography of bengali female Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami, who was the captain of the India national women’s cricket team.

Cricket based movies have become a very popular trend in Bollywood these days. Ranveer Singh’s ’83’ is already in theatres while Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’ and Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Shabas Mithu’ are awaiting for their much-awaited release. Amidst all this, actress Anushka announced that she’s going to star as cricketer Jhulan Goswami in the film ‘Chakda Xpress.’

Although, Anushka seems quite happy and excited about her comeback project. Anushka shared the teaser of Chakda Xpress on Thursday and Twitter has a lot to say, there are several people stated that she is not the right fit for Jhulan’s role. While some user pointed out that Anushka could have picked another film for her ‘comeback’, given her ‘weird’ Bengali accent and the poor attempt at darkening her skin didn’t match with Jhulan at all.

One disappointed twitter user wrote, “As much as I love her, she does NOT fit this role and tbh this is kinda cringe.” Another one wrote, “Jhulan Goswami is one of the biggest sports icons in India. She deserves better. Anushka Sharma isn’t looking suitable for the role. Height, colour nothing matches with Legend Goswami. Even her Bengali accent is very cringe”, while another one added: “The way she’s telling ‘Kintu chinta koro na. Seems like the filmmakers thought Jhulan was a probasi Bangali (an expatriate Bengali).”

Another user who pointed out the miscast shared that a Bengali actress should’ve been chosen to play Jhulan. They wrote, “A Bengali actress must have been chosen for this role. Leave casting to Bollywood and they’ll end up casting Robert Pattinson for Martin Luther King Jr.’s biopic.”

Chakda Express’ traces the glorious journey of one of the fastest female pacers in the history of women’s cricket as she moves up the ladder despite the countless obstacles. The film is written by Abhishek Bannerjee and produced by Anushka’s production house Clean Slate Filmz and directed by Prosit Roy. The Netflix film will go on floors later this year.
