Bali: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the final of the BWF World Tour Finals in Bali on Saturday after defeating Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-15, 15-21, 21-19 in the semifinal. Reigning world champion and the two-time Olympic medallist will face South Korea’s An Seyoung in the summit clash on Sunday.

It will be Sindhu’s third final appearance in the season-ending tournament. She became the first and only Indian woman to win the championship in 2018. The world number seven Indian had a 12-8 win-loss record against the world number three Japanese heading into the match.

Sindhu has been in great form since her bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Before to the BWF World Tour Finals, she had reached the semifinals in three of her previous four tournaments: the French Open, Indonesia Masters, and Indonesia Open. In March, she came in second place in the Swiss Open.

Sindhu and her Japanese opponent had met for the 21st time, and Sindhu now has a 13-8 head-to-head advantage following Saturday’s victory. Lakshya Sen will face defending Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in the men’s singles semifinal, which will be the last match of the day.
