Bangkok: The three Asian games which were earlier scheduled to be held in November now got postponed to 2021. Thailand will be hosting the BWF world tour between January 12-31.

In an open letter, the BWF President thanked the players for fighting through the Covid-19 pandemic,

“To the players and team entourages, we have heard your frustrations and we thank the many of you who have supported us and shown patience as we work towards an eventual return. It is our priority to ensure badminton remains relevant and to protect the livelihoods of international badminton players,” the letter read.

According to reports, the apex body had earlier considered Indonesia as the host for the three events but the country decided to cancel its application due to the global health crisis.

“We acknowledge that pushing the back end of the HSBC BWF World Tour 2020 season into the beginning of next year is likely to affect the World Rankings and next season’s BWF Tournament Calendar,” “…But this solution for the Asian leg gives us the best opportunity to resume and complete this year’s HSBC BWF World Tour as part of our return to international badminton,” believes BWF.

Earlier, The Thomas and Uber Cup had been postponed after teams from various countries had withdrawn from the tournament due to the COVID 19 situation.
