Borussia Dortmund sack manager Lucien Favre after heavy Stuttgart loss

Dortmund: Borussia Dortmund sacked their manager Lucien Favre following Saturday’s (5 December) heavy loss of 5-1 at home to VfB Stuttgart.

Favre, who took charge at Dortmund after leaving French club Nice in July 2018. He has also previously worked at Hertha Berlin and Borussia Mönchenglabdach in the Bundesliga. Favre’s three-year contract was due to expire at the end of the season.

Dortmund failed to win any of their last three league games, hence dropped to fifth in the league. Although, they have advanced to the Champions League round of 16.

Edin Terzic, the assistant coach took charge of the team on Sunday(6 December) afternoon training session and would remain at the helm until the end of the season, as informed by the club.

“We are all grateful to Lucien Favre for his excellent work over the past two-and-a-half years, in which he and his team won two runner-up championships. As a professional and as a person, Lucien Favre is beyond any doubt,” Hans-Joachim Watzke, Dortmund’s chairman said in a statement.

“It is very difficult to take this step,” said Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s sports director. “But we believe because of the negative developments lately that there is a need to act.”
