Birthday boy Mason Mount helps Chelsea reach FA cup fourth round

London : Mason Mount scored scored on his 22nd birthday as his side eased to a 4-0 victory over fourth-tier Morecambe in the FA cup third round on Sunday (10 January).

Morecambe nearly took a shocking lead on 11 minute when Adam Phillips’s swerving cross almost caught Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga off guard. Kepa however, recovered brilliantly to keep the ball from crossing the line.

Mount gave Chelsea an early lead on 18 minutes  at Stamford Bridge with his fierce shot from 25 yards, leaving Morecambe goalkeeper Mark Halstead with no chance to save his team.

Timo Werner scored his first goal in two months with a simple tap-in from Kai Havertz’s knockdown shortly before halftime on 44 minutes and doubled the lead of his team.

The hosts scored their third goal in the second half as Hakim Ziyech threaded a delightful through ball for Callum Hudson-Odoi, which was scored by him just four minutes after the interval.Havertz added the fourth goal with a header on 85 minutes as Chelsea claimed their first win in four games in all competitions.
