Kolkata: Rumeli Dhar, Gouher Sultana, and Vanitha VR will be leading the East Bengal, Aryan, and Kalighat Club respectively in the inaugural edition of Bengal Women’s T20 Blast, announced by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) at players’ draft process today at Eden Gardens.
The tournament will see 90 talented women’s cricketers from different age groups being picked into 6 teams – East Bengal, Rajasthan Club, Md Sporting, Town, Aryan, and Kalighat Club. The pool was generated based on the data of the players, ensuring total transparency.
”We have been contemplating over the last few years that club cricket in the women’s segment must begin. We tried to start this tournament last season but due to Covid, we had to cancel at the last moment. We are extremely happy to start the tournament this year. It’s not going to be a one-off tournament and we will be working keenly to make it better with each passing year,” said CAB President Avishek Dalmiya on the inaugural address of the tournament.
CAB Jt Secretary Debabrata Das has expressed his gratitude towards CAB President Avishek Dalmiya along with other office bearers, committee members, the clubs, coaches, and players for helping in organizing the tournament.
However, due to upcoming international matches, the tournament will not be held in Eden Gardens this season. The tournament will start on 7 February at BCA Kalyani and will conclude on 23 February. The event will be broadcast live on Fancode.
