New Delhi: Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has been eliminated from the list of commentators selected by the BCCI for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) starting from September 19.

Manjrekar, a part of the IPL commentary panel since 2008, was dismissed from the BCCI’s list of commentators earlier this year in March for a taunting comment on India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja during the World Cup.

However, he also got himself into another argument when he questioned his companion commentator Harsha Bhogle’s cricketing front proof of identity during the pink-ball test as Bhogle had no experience of playing first-class cricket.

Manjrekar wrote to the BCCI last month, where he apologised for his activities and seeked to be put back as commentator-cum-critic. “You are already in receipt of the email I sent to explain my position as commentator. With the IPL dates announced, bcci.tv will pick its commentary panel soon. I will be happy to work as per the guidelines laid by you. After all, we are working on what is essentially your production. Last time, maybe there was not enough clarity on this issue,” he wrote.

“The player concerned obviously misunderstood this or was perhaps misinformed. By the way, the player and I have since privately made peace over this issue.” The seven selected commentators are- Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Sunil Gavaskar, Murali Kartik, Rohan Gavaskar, Deep Dasgupta, Harsha Bhogle, and Anjum Chopra.

The 13th edition of IPL is set to kick off from September 19 and will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this year.
