Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund to lift 5th title of the year

Munich: Bayern Munich won their 5th silverware of the year 2020, by defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the DFL Super Cup. Dortmund, who are the fierce rivals of Bayern managed to make a comeback from a two-goal deficit but the goal from Joshua Kimmich on 82 minutes sealed the match for Bayern.

With this trophy, Bayern now have Bundesliga, German Cup, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup. The German Super Cup is generally played among the Bundesliga winners and the German cup winners, now Bayern having clinched both the trophies, it was played against Dortmund, who are the Bundesliga runner-up.

Hansi Flick’s men took a comfortable two-goal lead away before half time as Corentin Tolisso and Thomas Muller scored on 18 minutes and 32 minutes respectively. The road to redemption was initiated by the goal from Julian Brandt before the half time whistle on 39 minutes.

The equaliser was scored by Erling Haaland on 55 minutes. Since then Dortmund got many chances to take the lead, but they failed to convert and Manuel Neuer denied them one, with his spectacular save from one of Haaland’s breakaway. Kimmich’s goal on 82 minutes, helped Bayern emerge victorious over their rivals as they went on to clinch another trophy.
