Mumbai: Former Australian cricketer-turned-commentator Dean Jones passed away at the age of 59 following a cardiac arrest in Mumbai on Thursday (September 24). Jones was part of the Star Sports commentary team and was in a bio-secure bubble, working for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 from a seven-star hotel in Mumbai.

Jones has been an active cricket analyst and was signed up to do off-tube commentary on the IPL 2020 now ongoing in UAE. During his international career, Jones has played 52 Test matches and 164 ODIs for Australia for eight years between 1984 and 1992. He scored 3631 runs in red-ball cricket at an average of 46.55 with 11 hundreds and 14 half-centuries.

In ODIs, he assembled 6068 runs at 44.61 with seven hundreds and 46 fifties. With a 216 as his best Test score, Jones was an important member of Allan Border’s team. Jones was one of the first Australian batsmen cut out for the limited-overs game and he was quite fortunate at it.
