Goa: Jamshedpur FC came up trumps against ATK Mohun Bagan winning 2-1 and register their first victory of the season. Both the Jamshedpur goals were scored by their Lithuanian talisman Nerijus Valskis while Roy Krishna netted the only goal for Kolkata giants.
The match started with Jamshedpur attacking from the first minute. It was important for them to win and come back after a poor start to their season and what is better than to beat a strong team like ATK Mohun Bagan. Valskis loves to score against the ATK side as he scored in last year’s final as a Chennaiyin FC player and he made no mistake today.
The first goal came in the 30th minute from a corner, thanks to a sharp and cracking header from Valskis. In the second half, ATKMB started to pull the trigger but Jamshedpur goalie TP Rehenesh came up trumps against Krishna. In the 60th minute, Valskis scored his fifth of the season and the second for the day.
ATKMB pulled one back in the 80th minute through Krishna though it was controversial as the Fijian was clearly a yard offside. ATKMB pilled on the pressure with Manvir Singh, Prabir Das and Krishna attacking constantly but Rehenesh made the difference every time to avert any danger.
Antonio Lopez Habas will be disappointed by the performance of his side. The defence fared weakly resulting in the second goal. But a team like ATKMB who have so many characters on their side, one loss will not affect their strata.
