Kolkata : ISL Cup Champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) beat Abahani Limited Dhaka 3-1 in a play-off match to seal a spot in the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stage, at Satlake Stadium, Kolkata on tuesday. Abahani Ltd Dhaka took an early lead, but resulting in MBSG turning the story at the end and put a fight to secure a place in the second tier continental club competition.
The ISL Giants, were behind when Cornelius Stewart scored the first goal for Abahani Ltd Dhaka after Vishal Kaith fumbled in the box. Stewart was quicker on the ball and even more authoritative without any hesitation and didn’t miss the chance. He gave Abahani 1-0 lead in the first 17 minutes.
After several chances, MBSG scored their first goal via penalty by Cummings in 37th minute of the game.

In the start of the second half Mohun Bagan Super Giants put up an immense pressure in the Abahani’s box which resulted a same side goal by Milad of Abahani in the 58th minute, which gave MBSG a 2-1 lead. Just 2 minutes after the second goal, Armandu Sadiku netted a killer blow and makes it 3-1.
The match ended in 3-1 in favour of Mohun Bagan Super Giants.
In three consecutive years, Mohun Bagan SG sealed their qualification to the continental competition. They will now join Odisha FC in the AFC Cup along with Maziya FC & Basundhara Kings for the forthcoming 2023-24 season.
