Vadodara : Gujarat Giants defeated UP Warriorz by 6 wickets in WPL 2025 and secured their 1st win of the tournament. Ashleigh Gardner starred with 52 (32) & 2/39 and played pivotal role in win.
Gujarat Giants bowling first began taking wickets at regular intervals of time. Apart from vital 3rd wicket stand of 51 runs between Uma Chetry (24) and skipper Deepti Sharma (39), UP Batting never looked settled.
Priya Mishra (3/25) picked 3 wickets, Deandra Dottin, skipper Ashleigh Gardner bagged 2-fers.
An important 26(13) partnership between Alana King (19*) & Saima Thakor (15) brought UP’s score to 143-9 (20).
Chasing 144, Gujarat found themselves in trouble as Sophie Ecclestone (2/16) reduced them to 2/2.
However, skipper Gardner, player of the match, had other plans as she smashed UP bowlers all over the park with 3 sixes and 5 boundaries, scoring half century 52(35), and also important 55 runs with Laura Wolvaardt (22).
Harleen Deol (34*) & Deandra Dottin (33*) carried on the innings with 55*(37) partnership and chased down the total in 18 overs.
