LONDON: Arsenal have signed a new goalkeeper for the 2020-21 season. Iceland international Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson completed his move to the Emirates from French side Dijon on a four-year deal for a reported fee of just over 1m euros and will serve as a back up to first-choice goalkeeper Brend Leno.

With Emiliano Martinez departing for Aston Villa this summer, the Gunners were looking for a new back-up keeper and managed to lock the deal of Runarsson. “We want to create healthy competition for places and we look forward to seeing Alex bring further depth to the goalkeeping position,” said manager Mikel Arteta on the transfer.

The 25-year-old made a total of 45 appearances for the French side for the last two seasons while winning five caps for the national side.
