Are Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi on verge of decline ?

Kolkata: It is very unlikely not to find the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the scoresheet consistently. These two players who are considered the greatest ever to grace the game of football have consistently scored goals and bailed their teams from difficult situations.

But much to the surprise and disappointment of their fans, neither of them has been consistent this season. As for Cristiano Ronaldo who had a homecoming last summer, it is not as sweet anymore.

The Portuguese are going through his longest goal drought since 2010. United last played Burnley which ended in a 1-1 draw. Ronaldo came off the bench and failed to score, extending his goalless streak to five matches, his worst since the 2010 season at Real Madrid.

Failing to score against the team which is at the bottom of the league is very unlike Ronaldo. Other than that he also failed to score against Wolverhampton, Brentford, West Ham, and Middlesbrough.

Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint Germain as a part of a forced move when FC Barcelona failed to give him a contract expansion abiding by the La Liga Financial Fair Play rules. The Argentine also had had problems adapting to life in France.

Besides, not scoring like his usual self Messi also stayed out due to injuries for a number of a time and also missed out on matches when he contracted Covid 19. Lionel Messi faced a goal drought in Ligue 1. Although he scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Whereas after playing 13 league games Messi only scored twice and provided six assists. Unlikely for the player who hold the record of most number of Pichichi awards. As it looks, the greatest players are going through rough matches. Although they have the innate tendencies to make world class comebacks. Only time will tell whether we will witness such comebacks or are the greatest players on the verge of decline.
