Bengaluru: Six Indian men’s hockey team players have recovered from COVID-19. According to a source close to the team, captain Manpreet Singh, goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak, defender Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, and striker Mandeep Singh had tested positive between August 10 and 12. They have now tested negative twice and their vitals are normal.
“All the hockey players have completely recovered from Covid-19 and will be discharged this evening,” the source told PTI. Among the players, though Mandeep was asymptomatic he was the first to be shifted to the SS Sparsh Multi-speciality Hospital in Bengaluru by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) after a dip in his blood oxygen level. Previously SAI reported all the players had mild symptoms after returning to the base and were quarantined until six of them tested positive.
Later on, the other five players were also shifted to the same hospital as a precautionary measure along with Mandeep. The training for both men and women teams will start from Wednesday, but the six recovered players have to be quarantined for some time before they join.
Currently, 33 male and 24 female players are in Bengaluru for the camp. “But as per the state government guidelines the recovered players will have to live in isolation inside SAI campus for a week to 10 more days before resuming practice,” the source said. All the women players tested negative in the on-arrival tests conducted by SAI.
