New Delhi: India Test team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is very excited to serve for his new team Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2020 which will begin on September 19 in UAE. On Sunday (August 2), IPL the governing council decided to set a 24-player limit for each squad and approved the use of unlimited COVID-19 substitutes.

Rahane is getting ready to maintain the body fitness and mental condition, as he didn’t do anything in the cricketing front in the last three to four months. “I am really excited about this IPL happening in Dubai. I am really looking forward to it because in the last 3-4 months I actually didn’t do anything. I have been doing my fitness workout, Yoga, meditation and visualisation. But cricket skill-wise I didn’t do anything,” he told India Today.

He played for Mumbai Indians in the first three IPL editions where he scored 148 runs in 10 IPL matches before moving to Rajasthan Royals between in 2011. He has played for Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017 season. During the last auction, Rahane was picked up by Delhi.

When the Delhi franchise questioned him for his interest to serve for their team in the IPL 2020, Rahane took his time and then decided to serve for them due to the coaching team like Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly. Though the present BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is not present in the latest Delhi Capital’s support staff, he was an advisor of that side at that time.

“I am really excited to play for Delhi Capitals. I got an opportunity. Last year when I was playing for Hamphsire, Delhi Capitals asked me if I was interested in playing for them. I took my time and I thought it’s an opportunity for me to learn something new. To take my game forward, to take my T20 game forward,” he said.

“I took my time and I thought it is the best opportunity for me to learn something new, to take my T20 game forward. Now obviously Dada is not there, but that time the focus was if I can play under Dada and Ricky Ponting as a coach I could have done many things.”

Rahane has applauded Delhi Capitals as he trusts that it has an outstanding bunch of talented players with the match-winning ability. “As a cricketer that’s what you want, you have to learn many things, learn each and every day and take your game forward. As an individual, I am really looking forward to play for DC. They have exciting talent, excellent bunch of players, everyone is a match-winner,” he concluded.
