Ashwin struck on the very first ball to dismiss right-handed batsman Karun Nair. Three balls later, he sent back the Trinidadian wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran for a duck to reduce KXIP to 34 for 3 in the sixth over. However, in the same over he suffered the injury while trying to stop a ball in his followthrough.

In the post-match event, Ashwin was present to take an award and he was eventually seen without a sling in his hand. Later, the Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer informed that Ashwin is all set to play in the next game. However, Iyer mentioned that they will not take any risk and wait for the physio’s confirmation before going ahead.

Delhi Capitals began their IPL campaign with a bang as they beat KXIP in Super Over on Sunday (September 20). South African pacer Kagiso Rabada bowled a remarkable Super Over and gave away only two runs, picking a couple of wickets.
