Kolkata: Mohun Bagan Super Giants defeated United Kolkata Sports Club 1-0 with help of Suhail Ahmad Bhat’s goals at Mohun Bagan Ground. However, the game saw lots of missed opportunities from Mohun Bagan that the scorecard doesn’t justify, which left Mohun Bagan senior coach Panos scratching his head, who was there to observe the game.
In first half, Sayan Banerjee started attacking Football from left. But his efforts were stopped by UKSC defense. Gogocha’s goal in 5th minute was declared offside which created lot of chaos.
In later part of first half, despite Mohun Bagan’s dominance, UKSC started coming back into game. Bhupinder Singh’s shot was missed just for inches.
Mohun Bagan came in lead in 43rd minute when Suhail converted an assist from Sayan. The Ball which struck left of the box and went inside the goalpost.
In the second half’s 61st minute, Sayan missed a golden opportunity as he failed to score in an empty net. Again in 68th minute, a Rohit Singh assist was wasted by Sayan , just 6 yards away from the box. The series of misses left Panos scratch his own head.
The last 10 minutes of the game proved to be chaotic. In the 82nd minute, United Kolkata’s Umair Shakil’s long-range shot hit Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Zahid’s chest. When Jobi Justin went to capitalize the return ball, Zahid came forward to save. The referee awarded a penalty after Zahid collided with Jobi. But Bidyashagar Singh aimed at the hoarding 10 feet away from the goal and missed the golden opportunity. In the 87th minute, Sayan took the ball from the left and was fouled by Amit Tudu. Amit had to go out after receiving a second yellow card and seeing a red card. Jobi Justin had to leave the field after seeing a red card in injury time. Mohun Bagan players got into an argument with the referee in last minutes of the game. At the end, Mohun Bagan took away the game with 1-0 margin.
