Kolkata : India on Saturday, 11 January announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, with Mohammed Shami making his return to the team after gap of 2 years. Axar Patel has been appointment as vice captain of the team.

Shami, who last played international match in ICC WC 2023 Final, went through knee surgeries and made comeback in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, Ranji Trophy 2024, giving impressive performances.
The prominent names that went missing from the squad are of Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, to manage workload. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name is still not included.
Jitesh Sharma, Avesh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Yash Dayal, and Vijaykumar Vyshak, all of whom featured in the squad for the T20Is in South Africa will miss out.
Nitish Reddy, Harshit Rana, and Washington Sundar all feature in the squad, despite missing out on India’s last T20I series against South Africa as they were part of the Test tour in Australia.
Indian pace department will be powered by Shami, Arshdeep Singh, all rounder Hardik Pandya, Nitish Reddy, Harshit Rana.
Spin sensations Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar will take command of spin department.
