Tokyo: Two more athletes and Spain’s men’s road cycling coach Pascual Momparler are among the new COVID-19 cases at the Tokyo Olympics Village, the organisers announced on Tuesday. A staff member related to the Tokyo Olympics but residing outside the Village, plus a committee employee, also tested positive for the coronavirus.

The athletes are from overseas and the total number of Games-related infections has reached 155 since July 1. Momparler is the second member of the team’s technical staff to test COVID-19 positive after one of the masseurs, Joseba Eguezabal, tested positive on Friday.

Momparler is currently isolated in a hotel in Tokyo after the result. Momparler’s positive test came a day before Ion Izagirre goes out for Spain in Wednesday’s time trial.
