Haryana: Two-time Olympic medallist and Padma Shri awardee wrestler Sushil Kumar has been arrested by Delhi Police on Sunday (May 23) morning in connection with the Sagar Rana murder case. Sushil’s right hand Ajay Kumar was also arrested along with Sushil after both were absconding for nearly three weeks.

According to reports, Sushil, Ajay and several others are involved in the nasty brawl outside the Chhatrasal Stadium that led to the death of the 23-year-old former junior national champion Rana on May 4 night. Two of Rana’s friends were also injured during the altercation.

Victims in the case have alleged that Sushil was also present at the spot when the incident took place. They also alleged that Sushil and others kidnapped Rana from his house in the Model Town area to teach him a lesson for bad-mouthing Sushil in front of other wrestlers, police had said.

An FIR of murder, abduction and criminal conspiracy has been registered against the 2008 and 2012 Olympic medal winner. A Delhi court had also issued a non-bailable warrant against Sushil and six others in connection with the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl case.

Since the Chhatrasal murder case came into public, Sushil has left for Haridwar and then Rishikesh, later he stayed at an ashram in Haridwar. After days of absconding, he returned to Delhi and he was constantly changing locations in Haryana, Delhi police said.
