Manchester: A 10-man Manchester United suffered their club record-equalling defeat in the Premier League era as the Red Devils were humiliated 6-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at home on Sunday (October 4).
Son Heung-min and Harry Kane each scored twice for Spurs while United’s Anthony Martial was sent off in the 28th minute as Jose Mourinho celebrated a stunning victory on his return to the club which sacked him 22 months ago.
Manchester United got the dream start they were looking for when Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot in the second minute. But things went downhill from there, as the hosts failed to score any further while the visitors pumped in one after another.
Tanguy Ndombele equalised on four minutes while and Son gave Spurs the lead three minutes later. To make matters worse, Anthony Martial was sent off on 28 minutes after a brawl with Eric Lamela. Taking advantage, Harry Kane made it 3-1 for Spurs on 30 minutes before Son completed his brace seven minutes later.
It was all over for Manchester United in the first half. Serge Aurier and Kane piled in more misery for the hosts scoring in 51st and 79th minute respectively. This was Spurs’ most emphatic win against United. With a failing transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a lot to prove, but this absolutely would not be the result he would have been looking forward to.
