Abu Dhabi: Indian Premier League (IPL) is an outstanding platform for young budding cricketers, to draw the country’s attention with their stellar performances. From Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Mohammed Siraj, IPL has given remarkable players to the Indian cricket team. Now in the UAE leg a young gun from Sunrisers Hyderabad Umran Malik has become the latest fast bowling sensation.
Highly impressed with SRH’s pace sensation Umran Malik, who has become a major talking point because of his express pace, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli said the Jammu and Kashmir youngster’s growth needs to be monitored.
“This tournament throws up talent every year, good to see a guy bowling at 150 clicks. It is important to understand the progress of individuals from hereon,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation after his team lost the game by four runs.
Malik, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, was there only as a net bowler for SRH. He became a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in the UAE leg after pacer T Natarjan was tested positive of Covid-19. The 21-year-old in a few games for SRH this season, has impressed one and all with his lethal speed, raw pace and clocked 152. 95 kph during the game against RCB, which made him the fastest bowler of the IPL, surpassing Lockie Ferguson (152.75 kmph).

SRH skipper Kane Williamson also couldn’t stop himself from praising the young lad, Williamson counted him as one of the biggest positives of a largely disappointing season for SRH.
“Umran certainly is special. We’ve seen him in the nets for a couple of seasons. Special opportunity for him and it’s not surprising to see him come and do well. (He has) Been a really valuable addition to the side,” said Williamson.
“He’s got a lot of mates in the team as well and that helps in sharing the knowledge. It’s a great opportunity for the younger guys to get involved and hopefully we will keep learning and we go win again on Friday.” he concluded.
