New Delhi: The 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup is reportedly set to start from October 17 in the United Arab Emirates, with the final scheduled on November 14. The T20 World Cup was supposed to be held in India but has been shifted to the UAE due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation in the country.

The BCCI is yet to write to the International Cricket Council officially. “Round 1, which will include 12 matches, will comprise eight teams from which four (top two from each group) would qualify for the Super 12s,” according to a report in ESPNcricinfo.

“Four teams from this lot of eight – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea – will then progress to the Super 12s, joining the top eight ranked T20I teams,” the report further added.

The tournament will start a few days after the remainder of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) concludes in UAE on October 15. The remainder of IPL 2021 starts on September 19.

With T20 World Cup happening almost immediately after IPL, players’ transit will be much easier if it’s held in UAE. Also, there won’t be any issues with quarantine for those players who will be joining their respective national teams after IPL.
