Zarqa: The Indian Women’s Football team secured a 1-0 win against Egypt in an ongoing tri-nation friendly tournament organized by Jordan FA in Zarqa. A first half goal from Naorem Priyangka Devi handed the Blue Tigresses a win in the Jordan soil.

Starting the game on a high note with a high pressure from the beginning itself, the women in blue had their chances on scoring as early as the 18th minute with skipper Ashalata Devi feeding Anju Tamang who lost the possession of the ball. Manisha Kalyan almost scored the first goal for the night but was parried away by the Egyptian custodian.

Before, Egypt could get accustomed to the high press from the Indian ladies, Priyangka Devi gave India the lead in the 32nd minute when Dalima Chhiber provided her froma sublime Manisha cross. India went onto the half time with a lead in a sole goal cushion.

Coming from the break coach Thomas Dennerby brought in Pyari Xaxa in place of Renu. Pyari came close in to extending India’s lead after she made a smooth run from a cross by Manisha. However, she was dispossessed by the custodian.

The Egyptians came close to their first real chance of the game, in the stroke of an hour mark. Engy Ahmed Sayed tried to take her chance from a close range but was strongly denied by Blue Tigresses’ custodian Sowmiya. Hayam Abdellatif had the final effort for Egypt in the dying minutes of the game but her effort landed safely into Sowmiya’s gloves.

With the full time whistle blown, India registered their maiden victory against Egypt. The Indian Women will be seen in action once more against Jordan at the same venue on April 9.
