Lionel Messi : A story that say victory comes to those who never give up

Spain:How do we recognise a talisman? When and actually, after what point of time can we say that a player has been the absolute talisman for their team? This can be said when, they save their teams repeatedly from defeat or pull them out from dire straits. In La Liga, the story doesnt stray much from the same. As, the new season is about to begin. Here is a sneak peak, as to who would the top teams looking upto this season.

Karim Benzema (The Times)

Real Madrid : The reigning Champions, who lifted their 34th La Liga title previous season are yet again the favourite this year. Post Cristiano Ronaldo, everybody thought it would be tough for the Galacticos to find their way back. But, Zinedine Zidane, built a team which won their 34th League title without the man, who was considered the talisman for the team in the recent years. Karim Benzema, played a very crucial role in that campaign. Benzema, played 37 league games and scored 21 times and bagged 8 assists. He was a contender for the Pichichi award and helped Real Madrid win tough and tight ties during the entire season. It is expected that this season Karim Benzema is yet again set to play an important role for the men in white.

FC Barcelona : After being the league topper till the coronavirus pandemic forced football to go for a hiatus, it was Barcelona’s league to lose. After a series of disappointing performances from the Blaugranes, they lost the title to their arch rivals. They would start this season with even more zeal to get back their hold on the domestic title. It goes without saying, who is the talisman for this team. Leo Messi, after the recent controversies about his commitment to Barça, would look forward to shut all his critics down with his performance. In the previous season, Messi scored the most number of goals and assists. He scored 25 goals and bagged the Pichichi award, also assisted 21 times during the league games. They would be again looking upto the Argentine for being the one who steps up when the team needs him the most.

Atletico Madrid : Alvaro Morata stepped up the previous season for Atlectico Madrid and scored 12 goals. It is no surprise that Diego Simeone’s men would like to win the league and put an end to the drought. Since their last league win in 2014, they have been eager to win this title and increase their league trophy count to 11. They are just below Real Madrid (34) and FC Barcelona (26). Morata, would try to work upon his previous stats and score more this season, to try and secure the league for the red and whites.
