Tokyo Paralympics: Avani Lekhara, 2 others draw blank on final day

Tokyo: Avani Lekhara, Siddhartha Babu and Deepak drew blank on Sunday as none of them made it to the mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 event at the Tokyo Olympics bringing an end to a remarkable campaign that yielded an unprecedented five medals in the sport.

Lekhara, who won two medals including a gold earlier in the competition, finished a disappointing 28th, while Babu missed the cut by a whisker finishing ninth in the qualification round. Babu finished with a score of 617.2, only 0.2 points behind China’s Chao Dong (617.4).

Lekhara, who won gold in the 10m air rifle and bronze in the 50m rifle 3 positions, finished with a score of 612. Nonetheless, the 19-year-old’s performance was outstanding, as she became the first Indian woman to win a shooting medal at the Paralympics.

Deepak, the third Indian in the competition, finished 46th after shooting a total of 602.2.
