Nonthaburi: India’s top men’s doubles badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have withdrawn from the forthcoming Thailand Open 2022. Sameer Verma and Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly of the women’s doubles team have also withdrawn from the tournament.

Chirag is said to have had some niggles throughout the tournament, and the duo informed the Badminton Association of India of their intention to forgo the event this week on Monday.

Following initial reversals against Malaysia and Denmark in the quarterfinals and semifinals, the world No. 8 pair had only dropped one set in the Thomas Cup — against Chinese Taipei — and dragged India back into the tournament.

Although Satwik-Chirag has withdrew from the tournament, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy have opted to compete in the Super 500. Satwik and Chirag were an important part of India’s victorious Thomas Cup campaign, winning five of their six matches in Bangkok.
